Efthymios Basdekis

The tenor Efthymios (Themis) Basdekis was born in 1980 in Thessaloniki and began his musical studies in Kozani in 1989.

He received his degree in Organ (harmonium) and Electone and he attended Theorie- and Harmony courses at a

 music school in Kozani.

While studying at the Faculty of Physics at the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, he began his training in classical singing with Professor Mikhail Pseiras. Between 2000-2005, he was a member of the choir of the city of Thessaloniki and participated in many concerts (Mozart, Haydn, Mahler, Theodorakis, Markopoulos etc.).

In opera performances he sang in the choir, but also interpreted minor solo roles as a baritone. June 2010, he received the Greek State Diploma in (solo) opera singing with grade “very good” (monophonic), awarded by Prof. Xenia Tsavkopoulou. After his diploma he was working on his voice and became a great tenor. He took private lessons from the Greek soprano Sophia Kyanidou. From 2005 to 2012,Themis Basdekis next to his singing studies, was working as a teacher for physics and mathematics schools and completed a Master of Science in Atmospheric Physics at the Aristotle University in Saloniki.

During his master studies, from 2012 to 2014 he studied in the class of Prof. Hedwig Fassbender at the HfMDK Frankfurt.

He took masterclasses with Cheryl Studer, Umberto Finazzi, Christoph Wohlleben, Aris Christofellis, Theodora Baka and Helmut Deutsch.

He has been a member of "Da Ponte Soloists" since November 2012 (founder: Dr. Heinz Wissenbach).

In March 2014 he played the role of Mr Upfold (Mayor) in Benjamin Britten's "Albert Herring" in the concert hall of Thessaloniki.

In May 2016 he played the role of the prince in the "Sleeping Beauty", a play for children, supported by the Zurich Opera House.

Themis Basdekis has been a permanent member of the choir of the Zurich Opera House since August 2014.
